Head west from Sainte-Maxime to the Estérel massif — red porphyry plunging into emerald waters. Swim in hidden calanques, snorkel around Île d'Or, stop at Agay and Anthéor. The Var's most spectacular coast, reserved for those who come by sea.

The Estérel massif is 30 km of red porphyry cliffs plunging directly into the Mediterranean, between Saint-Raphaël and Théoule-sur-Mer. Classified Natura 2000, it shelters calanques accessible only by sea — or by winding, tiring coastal trails. From Sainte-Maxime, count 45 minutes by sea to reach the start of the massif at Le Dramont, then go up to Agay, Île d'Or, Anthéor and Cap Roux.
This day is structured into four stops: morning anchorage at Calanque d'Anthéor for a first swim off Île d'Or, lunch at Agay beach (La Baumette restaurant or onboard picnic), afternoon snorkelling at Cap Roux and return along Cap du Dramont. Estérel waters offer record visibility for the Mediterranean (up to 15m in September), with protected posidonia beds harbouring groupers, barracudas and octopus.
Île d'Or is the highlight: a 3-hectare islet owned privately since 1913, topped by a red Saracen tower visible from the mainland. It reportedly inspired Hergé's "The Black Island" Tintin adventure. Anchoring allowed 100m from shore, crystal waters, 5-8m depth — ideal for snorkelling.
Our fleet suits this day: fast boats to gain time on the return trip (45 min instead of 75 with a slow RIB), sturdy swim ladder, snorkel sets provided, deck shower for salt rinse. Skipper is optional here — navigation is simple if you hold the licence — but recommended to fully enjoy without watching the route.

Red porphyry against emerald sea — a setting unique to the Mediterranean.
A day paced by anchorages, swimming and snorkelling. Each is essential alongside the others.
Legendary red islet facing Saint-Raphaël, topped by a Saracen tower built in 1910. Private property inaccessible on foot, but anchoring allowed 100m from shore. 5-8m depth, 10m average visibility in season, abundant fauna. The Var's most photographed snorkelling spot.
Discreet cove at the foot of Cap Roux, accessible only by sea. Turquoise waters, pebble bottom, spectacular mineral setting between red cliffs and pine forest. Perfect for a morning swim away from crowds. No restaurant on site — plan a picnic (we can order one).
Crescent bay facing Cap du Dramont, fine sand and shallow water. Two beach restaurants: La Baumette (Provençal cuisine, €55/person) and Le Sable d'Or (fresh fish, €70/person). Dinghy landing from your 200m anchorage. Ideal lunch stop on this day.
Spectacular point between Anthéor and Saint-Raphaël, 450m cliffs plunging into the sea. Expert-level snorkelling spot (deep waters, possible currents). Abundant fauna: brown groupers, sars, sometimes tuna. Only accessible by sea or 3h trail from Anthéor.
Provence Landing memorial (1944) and semaphore. Exceptional panorama over Estérel massif and Île d'Or. We sail past it on the return — guaranteed sunset photos. Option to add a stop at Port du Poussaï if logistically useful.
Safety + weather + snorkel briefing. Full kit distributed: masks, snorkels, fins (free). Coffee and water on board. Actual departure 09:15.
Anchoring in the cove, morning swim. Water at 23°C in July-August, 19°C in June. Option to paddle along the cliffs (included on board).
Heading to the legendary islet, anchoring 100m from the Saracen tower. Snorkelling session guided by the skipper (if booked). 5-8m depth, excellent visibility. Ideal spot for beginners.
Anchoring 200m from shore, dinghy landing to La Baumette beach shack (booking included). Fresh fish lunch + local rosé, back on board 15:30.
Coastal run along the massif, passing Île d'Or at sunset, arrival Sainte-Maxime 17:00. Option for a last swim at Plage de la Garonnette.
The westerly wind often picks up after 2pm along the Var's western coast. A 9am departure = ideal morning conditions, return before 5:30pm. If the westerly exceeds 20 knots, we reschedule or switch to a sheltered eastern itinerary (Cap Lardier).
We provide masks, snorkels, fins (3 sizes) and shorty wetsuits for the chilly. Bring waterproof SPF 50 — Estérel waters reflect light strongly.
Option 1: picnic ordered from a Sainte-Maxime caterer (€30/person, basket ready at departure). Option 2: restaurant at Agay (€55-70/person). Notify us 48h in advance for booking.
The Estérel itinerary burns more fuel than a Pampelonne day (longer distance, faster boat). Fuel is at your expense, billed on return per actual consumption. Plan €100-150 for the full day.
About 50 to 60 minutes with our boats (cruising speed 18-22 knots). Direct offshore run. With a slow RIB, count 80-90 minutes — not our recommended choice for this itinerary.
No. Île d'Or has been strictly off-limits private property since 1913. You anchor 100m away, snorkel in the crystal waters around, and photograph the Saracen tower from the boat. That's what makes its charm.
Yes at Île d'Or (5-8m depth, calm waters, no current). Less suited to Cap Roux (deep waters, currents) reserved for experienced snorkellers. We adapt spots to your level. Introduction lesson offered to beginners.
June to early October for optimal conditions (water 22°C+, visibility 10-15m, light wind). September is ideal: fewer crowds than August, warmest water of the year (24°C), maximum visibility. Avoid days with mistral over 25 knots.
The Estérel coast is more exposed than the Gulf of Saint-Tropez, so more sensitive to the westerly wind. The skipper monitors the weather live and can shorten the itinerary if needed. All our boats carry VHF, GPS, life jackets and a liferaft.
Full dayCruise from Sainte-Maxime across the Gulf to the legendary beaches of Pampelonne. Drop anchor off Club 55, Nikki Beach, or Plage de Tahiti and enjoy crystal-clear waters all day.
Half dayA short 20-minute cruise across the Gulf brings you to the iconic port of Saint-Tropez. Moor at the old port, stroll the cobblestone streets, and enjoy lunch with a harbour view.
Half dayDiscover the 'Venice of Provence' by boat. Navigate the colourful canals of Port Grimaud, then cruise to the Marines de Cogolin — a stunning 1,500-berth marina surrounded by vineyards.
Half daySet sail in the late afternoon for a magical sunset cruise around the Gulf of Saint-Tropez. Watch the golden light paint the coastline as you glide past Cap Camarat and the Ramatuelle vineyards.
Full dayExplore the wildest stretch of the Saint-Tropez peninsula. Anchor off Gigaro, swim at L'Escalet, and round the spectacular Cap Taillat — a narrow sandy peninsula accessible only by sea or hiking trail.
Full day €650 boat + fuel + optional skipper. Book online, 2-hour response with personalised weather briefing.
